Passionate about billiards

We are the best because we care. This is not just a job at Benner's Billiards this is a passion brought on by the amazing feeling we get when we leave knowing that the table we just worked on is set up properly and will look and play great for years to come.

Years of service

We may be a relatively new company, but we have years of experience in the field of pool table service. We have worked on many different styles and brands of tables over the years, and have the experience to make sure we are the pool table technicians you can trust to get the job done right.

Local

Benner's Billiards Service is a local company. We are based out of Red Deer, AB and serve all of central Alberta. Alberta is our proud home and we're happy to travel anywhere we are needed in this great province.

I got into this business because of the game, pool tables are one of the last true places that a family can be a family. pool tables bring people together, It doesn’t matter if it’s a few drinks with friends or a family night together, nothing brings people closer then a game of pool.

Our story so far

on April 1st 2015 Benner’s Billiards Service was born, well at least that’s when we registered our name and began to serve the Red Deer area. When I first started I didn’t even have a truck to offer full moves yet. I didn’t have any space to use as an actual shop so i got a work bench and set it up in my moms basement so I could work on rails. I had spent pretty well all my money on my tools to make sure I had the best equipment I could get Even then my biggest priority was to offer the best quality of work possible at a reasonable price.

Our First logo

When I was fist starting out I needed a logo for my company and found someone to bring what i wanted to life. This logo is still the main one we use. we have made slight changes over the years. the biggest is removing the cue. This made it look cleaner and looked better when we scaled up the image.

Got a Truck

It wasn’t long after I started that I realized I NEEDED a truck. lucky for me my uncle was selling off his old work truck and sold it to me for an amazing price. It was a 1991 GMC Sierra 1500 with over 500000Km on it. It looked pretty rough so I did the only thing I could afford at the time Bondo and spray paint body work. I fixed up the rusted out spots and painted it up to match our colors. I had gotten a topper for it from an amazing friend at the time and poof! I had a working full size truck I could use to offer full moves. this was a major change for me and made it so I could offer a fuller range of services.

The Shed

When I first started out I was working out of a room in my moms basement. No real shop for me. All I could offer for rail work was simply changing the felt on the rails. I didn’t have good enough ventilation or tools to offer full re rubbers yet. Until I think it was in 2016 that I got an amazing landlord that put a shed in the back yard just for me to work out of. It was far from perfect but at least I had my own space just for pool table work. This opened me up to what is now one of the larger aspect of my business. Changing rail rubbers.

Got New Wheels

In November of 2015 I got the biggest upgrade to any of my equipment yet. A new truck . the old GMC was a great truck that served me great, but our customer base was growing and the old truck was starting to look very out of place as we started doing more work in higher end neighborhoods as well as we were starting to get more and more calls taking us farther from Red Deer. As much as I loved the truck it was a gas guzzler and I didn’t want to risk getting stranded. So we upgraded to a 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 with less the 50km on it. I got decals installed, After all, vehicles can be rolling billboards.

No More Shed

In 2017 I met the woman that would end up being my wife and moved in with her. When I did I got to move my work space out of the shed and into an actual garage. I was still sharing that space with her car and of course the storage from both of our lives. This was a fantastic change for Benner’s Billiards Service. On top of having much more space to work with I was also much personally happier and motivated starting my new life as a family man. It’s amazing how much better of a person you can be when you have the right person in your corner.

Trying Something New

On August 8th, 2019 we opened our little store in the little town of Bentley, AB. We had Just under 1000SF and it had a very small selection with only a few cues and some accessories and only one used pool table. It had a small storage room and a back room that become my main work space. No more garage. I ran this store for 3 years and over those years we changed and grew a lot. We only about 5 months before Covid-19 hit and about 7 before we were forced to shut down due to Covid-19.

We didn’t waste this time though. While we were shut down I took the opportunity update or website and create an online store. taking pictures and uploading all our product on line. This was not a small task. by this time I had added lots of new accessories to our store and also had begun to carry darts and all the accessories that go with them as well. In April on 2021 we decided to renovate the store. We painted the walls, changed the flooring and swapped out our show models. Sadly e only got to enjoy them for just over a year as we closed our store down on July 15th, 2022. Here some pictures from when we first opened and some during our 3 years and right before closing.

First Radio Ad

In November of 2019 we were heard on the radio for the first time. We sponsored a 30 minute rock ride on Zed 98.9FM in the Red Deer area.

No Cars Welcome

In may of 2022 the choice was made to close down the store and restructure our business again. I loved the store and all the amazing people I met, some become good friends. I had a couple things lead to this choice. One was slowing sales on new tables, selling pool tables was the main reason I opened the store but economic situations led to slower sales. The next reason was also the biggest. Our service side was stay consistently busy and only getting busier. It got to a point where we were booked solid for a full month. So I made the choice to close the store and focus on services. Now with my time less split I am able to book in more services in a week and keep my attention on giving the best service possible in a much more timely manor. To make this happen I talked with my amazing wife and we agreed I could take over the garage (as long as I get her remote car starter fixed) and turn it into a actual shop. This became a huge job that I think was more work then starting the store was. We had to strip down the drywall to insulate, we used plywood instead of drywall for the walls, got a new garage heater installed and LOTS and LOTS of shelving, both built in and rolling. we managed to turn this small space into a wonderful work space that is larger than any space I’ve had to work on pool tables.

As we continue to grow and change I’ll keep updating this and adding the big changes. If you got this far thank you for taking the time to learn a little about our history and what we’ve done.
